The Center strives to support access to gender affirming healthcare that is not covered by our insurance plan and help offset the cost of those uncovered expenses through an Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).
HRA Description
A Health Reimbursement Account, or HRA, is an amount of money provided by an employer to
help pay for specific medical expenses. Any money that is spent does not count as taxable
income to employees and unused funds do not rollover year after year.
Eligibility
All Center employees that enroll in The Center’s medical insurance plan are eligible for the
HRA. Employees become eligible on the first of the month following the date of hire, in
alignment with The Center’s medical insurance coverage eligibility criteria. Dependents,
including spouses, domestic partners and dependents are not eligible for the HRA.
Funds Availability & Accessing Funds
The Center will provide up to $5,000 per plan year, per employee for qualified gender affirming
health care costs that are not covered under The Center’s medical plan. The plan year runs
from January 1st to December 31st. Expenses related to procedures, copays, deductible costs,
and prescriptions that are covered by the medical plan are not eligible to be reimbursed through
the Gender Affirming Healthcare HRA.
This HRA is separate from the in-network deductible HRA that The Center also provides.
Employees can access funds by submitting a claim to Clarity along with supporting
documentation. Clarity will then mail a check to the employee or the employee can set up direct
deposit. Employees will need to receive a denial from the medical plan in order to access the
HRA. In addition, employees may be required to submit a letter of medical necessity for services
that are considered dual purpose (ex: services that may be considered cosmetic such as facial
reconstruction and breast augmentation).
